Vasshella Flexible Casing Joint
Developed and patented by Vasshella Subsea Technologies, the Vasshella Flexible Casing Joint increases the fatigue life time and reduces problems with thermal expansion of the 20" casing on subsea well head systems.
Designed with a HNBR/Stainless steel flex element the bending moment is reduced by a factor of >20. The flex element will be compressed by the weight of the casing and act as a spring during thermal expansion of the 20" casing.
The development, testing and qualification is done by Vasshella Subsea Technologies.
Vasshella Flexible Casing Joint (VFCJ) is securing the integrity of a Subsea Wellhead System. The flexible HNBR / stainless steel element are compressed by the weight of the 20” casing string and acts as a spring during thermal expansion of the casing during drilling.
The VFCJ will also reduce the stress variations on the welds below the Well Head.
This secures a massive increase in fatigue lifetime.
Introduction of VFCJ with standard Well Heads in 36” conductor will eliminate the need for expensive and complex Ridgid Lock Down systems.
FOUR MAIN COMPONENTS
The upper body is bolted to the flex element.
The lower body is boltet to the flex element.
The flex element is vulcanized with stainless steel elements and support rings.
The swage element is welded to the upper body.
